NOTICE: DUE TO
DECLINING MEMBERSHIP, THE KIWANIS CLUB OF WATSONVILLE ELECTED TO
DISSOLVE EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 9, 2005.
Description
We are an association of people of all ages, professions and
backgrounds
committed to our community. For over 70 years, the Kiwanis Club of
Watsonville
has provided labor and financial support to worthy causes in our
area.
From sponsorships of Little League and Soccer teams, Boy Scouts and Cub
Scouts, to building playgrounds, painting rooms, landscaping at
shelters
and visiting convalescent hospitals, from providing scholarships
to local high school and junior high school students, as well as
monthly
awards and recognition of deserving students from our adopted school,
Renaissance
High, we are active in our community donating financial assistance,
labor
and time, where a helping hand is needed.
Weekly Meetings
We meet each Thursday from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Golden
Ricksha
Restaurant 1115 Freedom Blvd. Watsonville, CA. Click
here for a map. These meetings are fun, they provide
information
and inspiration through interesting programs, and they help to promote
fellowship and friendship among members.
Fundraising
During the year the club engages in a few fundraising activities that
help
enable us to finance the community services that we provide. These are
enjoyable ventures and help build camaraderie among participants. Each
member is expected to participate in fundraising activities.
Also,
during our meetings, the "detective" may levy "fines" against members
for
such things as not wearing a KIWANIS pin or badge, interrupting the
meeting,
wearing an ugly tie, buying a new car, or taking a vacation. Fines may
range from $1 to $5, and are based on the member's financial
circumstances.
Board Meetings
On the second Wednesday of each month, the elected officers and board
members
meet to conduct club business. All club members are welcome and
encouraged
to attend.
